My mind is attuned like a radar these days to pick out the word “balance” when I see or hear it.
So when I saw an article in the weekly newsletter of Jason Feifer, editor in chief of Entrepreneur magazine, with the heading “The Imperfect Balance”, it jumped out at me.
It read as affirming advice. And it made sense to me.

I do sometimes worry that I bang on way too much about the subject of work-life balance.
But it’s fair to say that what you can expect from the content on my @afinebalance_blog social media pages, blog and podcast, is a celebration and exploration of how people from all walks of life individually pursue a balance between their work and everything else in life.
There will be some surprises. The reasons behind people’s choices in setting their priorities isn’t always obvious (even to themselves). But there is predictability.
✅ You know I’m always going to start my interviews with one question: “what figures quantify your work:life ratio and why?”.
✅ You know you’ll come across a variety of ‘work-life balance stories’. From single people, to retired people, to working parents, to stay-at-home mums, to workaholics and more. Everyone has a story to tell.
✅ You know that I will do my best to showcase the diverse ways that people flex work around life and life around work with curiosity, not judgement, to encourage self-reflection and shared learning.
My Instagram page is a little different, however, as I use it to document my blogging and podcasting journey too.
Otherwise, unless there is a specific work-life balance angle to it, or something is impacting on my own sense of balance that feels relevant to reflect on, I tend not to bring details of my personal life or views into it.
And there you have it. Predictability and surprise.
