Finding Balance as a Mother – when You’re Ambivalent About Having Kids

Not every woman has a burning desire to be a mother.

The rhetoric I’ve usually come up against when interviewing working mothers is that motherhood is a longed-for and revered part of their overall ambition. But, of course, that’s not always the case.

Parenting responsibilities are often cited as the reason for work-life balance considerations.

Yet, how does a pregnant working mother find a balance between their work and other things in life when they’re ambivalent about motherhood?

In the latest episode of ‘A Fine Balance – The Podcast’, Vicky Shilling candidly tackles the issue head on, as you can hear in this reel.

She talks about her experience of adjusting to pregnancy and motherhood when her career had always previously come first. Which leads to questions about compromise, resentment and sharing the load in a partnership. All things that we go on to cover later in the episode.
