It was so great to chat this week to Lorna McKenna on her podcast “Evolve & Expand” about my blog, podcast, all things relating to the pursuit of balance.
This was another first for me: being interviewed on someone else’s podcast. Being the interviewee for a change. I’ve held off doing this for a while, but I’m starting to work out what it is I feel comfortable saying, and this felt like the right opportunity to go for it.
You see, when people find out that I write a blog and host a podcast about work-life balance, I invariably encounter a degree of expectation that I possess some kind of method for how a person can – or should – find their optimum balance.
In my mind’s eye, my interlocutor metaphorically reclines back in their seat, arms folded, sceptical yet ready to receive some pearls of wisdom. I haven’t perfected my patter when confronted with questions of this nature. The kind of questions that expect – even deserve – a pithy answer in the form of a catchy formula, a simple infographic, or a three-point plan.
But I don’t have it. A pithy answer that is. Or a magic bullet to offer. Not yet anyway.
During my conversation with Lorna I explain why not, and we delve into some of the conclusions I’m drawing from my observations on how people balance work with everything else in life.
I’m looking forward to sharing the episode soon.
