Banking

Banking is one of those careers that doesn’t have strong positive work-life balance connotations. Known for it’s long working hours, and a cut-throat profiteerng mentality, it is often associated with a lifestyle that weighs heavy on the “work” side of the work:life ratio, with driving forces that are, in the long-run, unfulfilling.

The only work-life balance of a banker featured on this blog counters this reputation. Gilles Dahan worked in banking for many years, and indeed describes a lifestyle of long working hours. Yet, he felt utterly fulfilled by it, and was able to sustain a balance that suits him.

The banking career was touched on in the podcast interview with the musician Amanda Kaya. She refers to careers that some people may consider to be ‘souless’ (banking among them!), and points to their value. She also talks about how enjoying music as an amateur can fulfil a creative side to people that do not work in creative industries.
