What do you see in this picture?
Some might see a mess. Rolls of material stood up against the wall, scraps of paper strewn on a desk, folders full of papers stacked up on shelves.
Others would see untold creative potential.
To Yves Saint Laurent, this was his creative haven, where he put ideas on paper and brought beautiful and elegant designs to life.
I was lucky to have the opportunity to visit the Yves Saint Laurent museum on a recent trip to Paris. From the perspective of a work-life balance blogger, it was exciting to gain insight into a workplace that was the epicentre of a person’s life’s work and passion.
It afforded some glimpses into the work-life balance that such a creative, passionate, entrepreneurial and influential person might have had.
But this contrast also struck me – between how “work” is perceived so individually. One person’s idea of a mess is another person’s driver to create.
There is only one question I ask every person that I interview for the blog and podcast. It is: how would you quantify your work:life ratio and why?
Indeed, no two answers are ever the same.
