Are you more of a home-made or shop-bought birthday cake kind of parent?
My latest podcast guest, Helen Hayward, describes the pride she took in home-making when raising her two children.
For her, this was a conscious decision. To be domestic. To make her home a comfortable, nourishing, aesthetically-pleasing haven for her family.
Contrary to her feminist heroines who considered housework to be demeaning and represent decay, Helen saw in it – and still does – the potential for growth and creativity.
Embracing it was her choice.
Everyone’s home-making values individually contribute to their sense of balance.
Home-made, shop-bought. There is no right or wrong. Each parent sets their priorities based on their individual set of values, skills, experiences and time available.
Finding balance in doing so can be the sweetest spot of all.
You can listen to my full interview with Helen here, and look out for the next “Work, Life Balance Lessons Segment” that will explore in more depth the theme of domesticity and the pursuit of balance.
