Season 1, Episode 7 of ‘A Fine Balance – The Podcast’: Bonus Episode Featuring Annabel Jeffcoate on How to Improve Your Work-Life Balance

This is a bonus episode and different to my usual format. Rather than hosting someone that has already featured on the blog ‘A Fine Balance’, my guest on this episode is work-life balance expert and founder of the consultancy Balance for Teachers, Annabel Jeffcoate.

As well as sharing her personal story of how she overcame a severe case of burnout by improving her work-life balance, Annabel provides advice on how others can do the same. Her advice is based on a strategy that she has devised using BALANCE as an acronym for: Breathe, in order to get Awareness, to Listen to yourself, so that you can Align your Next step, Cheer you, and Evolve.

The blog ‘A Fine Balance’ was created in July 2020, and the podcast launched on its first anniversary, with the premise to showcase the diverse ways that people flex work around life, and life around work; to learn from one another and celebrate our differences.

The premise of the blog and podcast ‘A Fine Balance‘ is to showcase the diverse ways that people flex work around life, and life around work; to learn from one another and celebrate our differences. It wasn’t my intention to advocate or advise on improving work-life balance. Yet, the feedback I often receive is that reflecting on one’s own, and others’, work:life ratio and the reasons behind those values, helps make sense of work-life balance choices.

So, when Annabel approached me to share her experience and professional advice on how to improve work-life balance in five steps, I decided to deviate from the podcast’s usual format and invite her on to share her expertise. Throughout our conversation, Annabel draws examples from many of the stories featured on the blog ‘A Fine Balance‘, as well as her own experiences and those of clients that she has coached.
