Have you ever wondered if you’d have a better work-life balance by quitting your nine-to-five and setting up on your own?

Perhaps you are self-employed and considering re-entering the workplace as an employee? Do you think doing so will enhance, or be detrimental, to your work-life balance?

Or maybe you’re just generally interested in how people from all walks of life balance work with everything else.

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then this episode is for you!

New Podcast Episode out today: Self-Employed or Employed – Which is Better For Your Work-Life Balance? Work, Life, Balance Lesson #6

This “Work, Life, Balance Lessons” episode explores which is better for your work-life balance: being self-employed or employed.

In it, I summarise the lessons I’ve learned from interviewing a range of self-employed and employed people – about whether it’s better for your work-life balance to be your own boss, or to be employed by someone else.

I’ve also done a bit of number-crunching to find out, for example, what proportion of interviewees that have featured on A Fine Balance saying they’ve experienced “burnout”, were employed at the time by someone else or were working for themselves.

This was one of the first themes to emerge from interviewing a range of people about how they balance work with everything else in life, and I first wrote a blog about it back in 2022, entitled Employed or Self-Employed: That is the (Fine Balance) Question. A couple of years on, and many more interviews under my belt, there’s so much more to reflect on.

You may notice a slight change to some of the sounds on this episode. This is because the platform I’ve been using to edit and host my podcast, Spotify for Podcasters (originally Anchor), has been absorbed by Riverside.fm.

Let me know what you think of the changes!
