Episode 61: On Life Purpose, Raising Teens & Finding Work-Life Balance When You’re “The Strong One” – Jennifer Y. Afriye’s Story

It’s not unusual for conversations about work-life balance to drift into the minutiae of the never-ending to-do list.

But what if you flipped the magnifying glass around and saw things from another – more macro – perspective?

Such was the conversation I hosted on the podcast episode out today, where my guest, Jennifer Y. Afriye – a business-owner and author of the book Rest is the New Hustle – guided me to visualise and consider some really impactful, existential scenarios about life purpose, legacy and decision-making around how a person “chooses to show up in the world”.

It’s these deep, broad and weighty thoughts that determine Jennifer’s work-life balance choices. At first glance, this might sound heavy or a little daunting – but the conversation was anything but gloomy.

On the contrary.

Jennifer offered a refreshing approach, albeit with some hard-hitting insights that challenge the way ‘balance’ and ‘fulfilment’ are often thought about.

In the “Work-Life Balance Confessions” podcast studio, interviewing Jennifer Y. Afriye: On Life Purpose, Raising Teens & Finding Work-Life Balance When You’re “The Strong One”

This episode goes beyond productivity hacks and daily routines. It invites listeners to reflect on the deeper motivations shaping their work-life balance choices in the first place.

That said, Jennifer shares some powerfully practical tips and I’d recommend having a pen and paper to hand when listening to note down the several acronym-based golden nuggets of wisdom that she runs through.

Happy listening!
