For what it’s worth, 57½ : 42½ is the combined work:life ratio of all the fathers I’ve interviewed on the blog and podcast, A Fine Balance.
Each of these fathers balances their fatherhood with their work and other relationships and interests in their lives differently. There are no rights or wrongs. Just a personal and uniquely individual prioritisation process.
Some of them are satisfied with their choices; others harbour some regrets, while recognising the difficulties they face at having to choose between what they want, and what is required of them.
No doubt for all of them, being a father is an important consideration when balancing work with everything else in life.
For parents and children alike, the ripple effect is far-reaching and long-lasting.
You can read the work-life balance stories of these fathers here. Tom McLaughlan and Gilles Dahan also joined me as guests of the podcast, which you can listen to by following links on this page.
Wishing you a happy Father’s Day, whatever that means to you.
